Lourdes Tango

Lourdes TangoLourdes Tango is a New Jersey based training consultant specializing in the areas of cultural competence, diversity and inclusion.  Originally from Cuba, Lourdes has collaborated with a wide variety of clients to design and facilitate programs that empower individuals and teams to create an environment of inclusion by leveraging the value of diversity within their organizations. Lourdes is fluent in English and Spanish and uses both languages so frequently that she used to have a bilingual parrot.

Lourdes holds a BA in Economics and a BA in Multinational Corporate Studies from Upsala College. She also holds a certificate in Conflict and Dispute Resolution from New York University and a certificate in Spanish Language and Culture from the Universidad de Madrid in Spain. She has continued her studies by completing graduate level courses and a certificate program at the Intercultural Communication Institute/Pacific University.

Prior to her work as a consultant, Lourdes gained first-hand experience in international business through positions with Banco de Bilbao in Madrid, Spain and Tango Imports in New Jersey. As Managing Partner for Tango Imports, she communicated and negotiated with exporters in Latin America in order to develop an extensive network of suppliers in that region. In addition, Lourdes has served as an adjunct professor of Intercultural Communication at Raritan Valley Community College and has lectured at universities, state and national conferences on subjects such as Multicultural Issues in the Workplace, Cultural Competency, and End of Life Care Across Cultures.

With over a decade of industry experience, Lourdes’ clients have included Fortune 500 and mid-sized companies, health care providers, educational and financial institutions, as well as governmental entities and non-profit organizations. She has also trained thousands of hospital employees on providing Culturally Competent Healthcare and Managing Diversity and Inclusion.

Lourdes has served on the Executive Board of SIETAR (Society for Intercultural Education, Training and Research) New York Chapter and was Volunteer Coordinator at SIETAR’s National Convention. She is also a recipient of the Volunteer of the Year Award presented by the International Institute of New Jersey for her leadership in providing cultural Diversity Awareness Programs for New Jersey schools and non-profit organizations.
